Respondus Lockdown Browser
LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the quiz testing environment within Canvas. While taking an exam, your students cannot print, use other applications, visit other websites, or search the internet.
To enable LockDown browser in your course, click on the “Navigation” tab from your Settings page.
Next, find the LockDown Browser icon from the list and enable it within your course. When finished, click the Save button. LockDown Browser will now appear on your left Course Navigation menu. Note that this area of the course is only accessible to Instructors.
The first time you click the LockDown Browser item you will receive a tutorial page. You can skip this by clicking the “Continue to Lockdown Browser” button. If you do not wish to see this again, you can also click the “Don’t show this page again” checkbox.
The Lockdown Browser Dashboard will bring up a list of all of your current Quizzes and whether or not the features of respondus are required for the particular Quiz.
To change the settings, click on the arrow drop-down by the title of the Quiz in question and click the Settings option.
You can now select and review the settings for your Quiz. When finished, click the “Save + Close Button.”
Quizzes that have LockDown Browser enabled will appear in three areas of your course:

Respondus Monitor
Respondus Monitor is an add-on for LockDown Browser that uses a student’s webcam to record exam sessions to help prevent cheating during exams. It flags suspicious behavior and uses data analytics to determine what sessions require attention by instructors. If you already have Lockdown Browser added to your course, then you have the ability to enable Respondus Monitor for your Quizzes.
To enable a quiz to require Respondus Monitor, click on the “Lockdown Browser” item from your Course Navigation (Note: this may be located in a different place on your Course Navigation than what the picture suggests).
Note: LockDown Browser will appear at the bottom of your navigation by default. Students do not see this navigation item; it is for instructor use only.
Find your quiz from the list that appears on the Lockdown Browser Dashboard and click on the arrow to select the “Settings” option from the drop-down menu.
After enabling Lockdown Browser you will then have the option to Enable Respondus Monitor. Select “Require Respondus Monitor for this exam.”
Additional settings will now become available to you, the first being the options for the startup sequence. Clicking on the “Preview” button next to any one of the options will allow you to see what a student would see at that stage of the startup. By default, all of these options are enabled, and you cannot disable either the “Webcam Check” or the “Facial Detection Check.
The Facial Detection Settings allow you to prevent students from starting the exam if their face cannot be detected, as well as notify your students during the exam that a face cannot be detected. These options are both enabled by default.
The final grouping, Advanced Settings, are turned off by default. The options listed allow users to use the Canvas quiz to use their microphone during the exam, in case they would need to provide a verbal response to a quiz question, as well as to make webcam videos available for viewing on mobile devices.
When you are finished with your settings, click on the “Save + Close” button at the bottom of the screen.
Quizzes that have Respondus Monitor enabled will be shown in three areas of your course:
On the Lockdown Browser Dashboard
On the title of the Quiz
