Bio

Andrew Stravers received his PhD from the University of Texas, where he was a graduate fellow at the Clements Center for National Security and studied US grand strategy. His dissertation examined the politics of overseas basing between the President and Congress, and his postdoctoral work focused on the politics of US bases abroad within host countries. As part of this work, he and his research team conducted surveys in fourteen countries over a three-year period to determine the demographics of support and opposition to US basing, along with types of interactions that change perceptions or spur protest. He has conducted field work for his projects in ten countries that host US military personnel. His work has been published in the American Political Science Review, the Journal of Global Security StudiesConflict Management and Peace Science, and others, along with popular outlets like War on the RocksThe National InterestThe Diplomat, and Real Clear Defense.
