Virtual Private Networking (VPN)
Virtual Private Network (VPN) creates a secure connection, or tunnel, to the CMU network over the internet. A VPN connection will allow you to:
- access on-campus resources from off-campus, including campus printers, library resources and network shared drives
- transfer data securely from off-campus
- work securely over public Wi-Fi
- access a service on a restricted subnet

AnyConnect Renamed to Secure Client
Cisco is renaming its VPN application from AnyConnect to Secure Client. The name will update automatically the next time you connect after April 17, 2025.
Important: After the update, shortcuts to the application (including desktop shortcuts) may be removed. You may need to recreate them.
