Phi Beta Kappa Inducts LCAL Students from Class of 2024

Carnegie Mellon University’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa (PBK) has inducted 56 students, four of whom are affiliated with the Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics in the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The nation’s oldest honor society, PBK was founded in 1776 and advocates for the humanities and social sciences by expanding awareness about the importance of the liberal arts. The 293 chapters are housed at top universities across the country, and each invites a small number of exemplary students to join every year.

The Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics inductees are:

Chris Crawford
Major: Computer Science
Minor: Chinese Studies

Rachel Wilson
Major: Computer Science
Minor: Hispanic Studies

Shyavya Nandyala
Major: Artificial Intelligence
Additional Major: Russian Studies 

Cheryl Zhang
Majors: Humanities Analytics and Music Performance
Additional Major: French and Francophone Studies
