Executive Director of Admission

Bio

As the Executive Director of Admission, Miguel Alvarez leads the team in the Office of Admission and oversees undergraduate student recruitment, admission review, travel, yield and enrollment. To support the university's mission and enrollment goals, Miguel and his team collaborate closely with the campus community and departments in Enrollment Management to help prospective and newly admitted students and families navigate the admission and financial processes. Additionally, they build strong relationships with community-based organizations and counselors from around the U.S. and internationally to recruit the best and brightest students.

Prior to being named Executive Director in 2025, Miguel served as Director of Access and Opportunity/Tartan Scholars Recruitment and Enrollment Manager in the Office of Admission. In this role, Miguel gained extensive knowledge in the areas of access, affordability and student success, and he was responsible for leading initiatives in athletics, outreach, counselor and CBO partnerships, and other college access efforts. Miguel also collaborated with the Student Academic Success Center and the Tartan Scholars program, working with student leaders from limited resource backgrounds. His beliefs in the power of education, relationship building, caring for people, and collaboration stem from his broad admission experience and his personal experience as a first-generation college student.

After graduating from college, Miguel served in the Army Reserve and began his career at Carnegie Mellon in 2014 as an Assistant Director of Admission.

Miguel is an active member of NACAC and PACAC. Within PACAC, he has served as treasurer and a member of the organization's Executive Committee. He was also selected as a NACAC Rising Star by PACAC in 2024.

Born and raised in the Washington D.C. area, Miguel has resided in Pittsburgh since 2008. He was a student-athlete and earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Point Park University in 2012. He later earned his M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University in 2017.
