Bio
In her role as Executive Director, Strategic Communication and Welcome Center, Rebecca Choltco oversees communication and marketing strategy for the Division of Enrollment Management and leads operations for the university's Coulter Welcome Center, which facilitates visitor experience and campus tours.
Becky and her team are responsible for planning and executing comprehensive, multi-channel communications that support student recruitment, inform prospective students and families, foster campus-wide collaboration, and promote student success. Becky leads the division's efforts in content strategy, messaging development, and marketing campaigns that are tailored to guide decision-making and strengthen the institution’s brand.
Becky also directs the strategy and operations of the Coulter Welcome Center, which serves as a primary gateway for prospective students and their families. The center is responsible for the visitor experience, including the planning and delivery of campus tours and the work of CMU’s Tartan Ambassadors — a highly selective group of student representatives. Through this work, she ensures the university’s values and strengths are authentically conveyed to visitors, enhancing their connection to the institution.
With 25 years of experience in strategic communication and marketing across diverse industries, Becky brings deep expertise in developing and leading high-impact communication initiatives. She values collaboration, data-driven strategy and creative storytelling. Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon as an assistant director in 2006, she managed communication functions and served as the assistant editor for a variety of publications at the Allegheny County Bar Association. Becky’s passion for storytelling developed as a writer and copy editor for area newspapers including the Tribune-Review, the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat and the Latrobe Bulletin.
Becky earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Journalism from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a member of the American Marketing Association and the Association for Women in Communications, and she serves on Carnegie Mellon’s Web Governance Council. In 2014, Becky was the recipient of the Pat Kleyle Staff Recognition Award in Enrollment and was a nominee for the Carnegie Mellon University Andy Award for Outstanding Dedication.
Becky resides in the Pittsburgh area with her husband Kris and their dogs Rooney and River.
