2024 is here, which means CMU Energy Week is right around the corner!

Registration is now open for the Wilton E. Scott Institute for Energy Innovation’s annual gathering of the brightest thinkers and decision-makers. Throughout the event’s history, the Scott Institute brought together scholars, investors, entrepreneurs, and more to discuss the most pressing issues in energy, from cleantech innovation to decarbonizing the industrial sector. This year, CMU Energy Week 2024 will focus on addressing challenges in the transportation sector, which accounts for just under 30% of all greenhouse gas emissions by economic sector. From March 19th to March 21st, attendees will explore these challenges through events, panel discussions, and keynote presentations, including a presentation by Dr. Rachael Nealer, the Deputy Director for the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation.

Nealer completed her M.S. in Civil & Environmental Engineering and her Ph.D. in Civil Environmental Engineering, Engineering & Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University, with work focusing on modeling supply chain transportation, energy use, and GHG emissions from large public and private data sources. Throughout the entirety of her career, Nealer’s research has focused on researching transportation as a system of systems and developing strategies to decarbonize transportation dually through technology development and policy. With previous experience including her work as Deputy Director for Transportation Technology and Policy for the White House Council on Environmental Quality, Nealer offers an invaluable perspective to help guide this year's conversations confronting the most pressing energy questions facing the transportation sector.

CMU Energy Week 2024 discussions will interrogate problems and work toward constructing an ambitious vision to reimagine how we move things, move people, and move equitably in our clean-energy future. Joining from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) will be our panel moderators Karen Lightman (Metro 21), Chris Hendrickson (Civil and Environmental Engineering /Traffic 21) and Destenie Nock (Associate Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering & Public Policy) as well as Pittsburgh Regional Transit's Katharine Kelleman, Ford Motor Company's Carly Dobbins-Bucklad. Many more speakers to be announced!
