Ellison Scholars Program for Graduate Study at the University of Oxford

Program & Benefits

The Ellison Scholars program supports students in pursuing DPhil (PhD) study at Oxford’s Ellison Institute of Technology. Scholars will contribute to EIT’s innovation projects, translating research and discovery into practical solutions and scaling these for global impact. Ellison Scholars will be active contributors to these projects, innovating to solve global problems across EIT’s four humane endeavors:

  • Health & medical science
  • Food security & sustainable agriculture
  • Climate change & clean energy
  • Government innovation & era of AI

Eligibility

  • Recent college alumni with either bachelor’s or master’s degrees are eligible.
  • No maximum age limit for the graduate program. Individuals with multiple years of work experience are also eligible to apply to the program. 
  • Applicants will be asked to provide evidence that they meet the entry requirements of their chosen DPhil (PhD) course at the University of Oxford. These entry requirements will likely include:
    • minimum undergraduate degree outcomes
    • English language requirements

Candidate Profile

  • The Ellison Scholars programme is looking for candidates from around the world who are passionate about solving humanity’s most serious problems. Applicants must show alignment with EIT’s vision by demonstrating a deep understanding of global problems in at least one of EIT’s four humane endeavors.
  • Applicants should also demonstrate:
    • Advanced technology-related skills
    • A proven track record in innovating to solve problems
    • Outstanding aptitude in a subject that relates to one of EIT’s humane endeavors
    • Academic excellence
    • Passion for their subjects, tenacity, and resolve
    • Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills

Application Process:

  • Candidates apply during August and September. Finalists are selected during November.
  • Candidates apply directly to the Ellison Scholars Program–there is no internal CMU process, but OURSD can provide support and guidance in advance of the application deadline.
