Annual Giving Header

At Carnegie Mellon, core values—reading, innovation, creativity, problem-solving and collaborative teamwork—provide the foundation for everything we do. The impact of this foundation is visible in projects that our students undertake in local communities, across the country and around the world.

Because of donors like you, the Library can and will continue to provide the best—and most needed—core materials to support students’ academic endeavors. Every contribution, in any amount, is a lasting gift that will help generations of Carnegie Mellon students.

In fact, we work closely with students to determine the most useful changes we can make for them. Many of you already know about our recent donor-funded additions and innovations, which include:

  • Turning a $500,000 challenge grant into a $1M endowment to acquire electronic resources
  • Opening the Maggie Murph Café and coffee bar, a great place to meet, linger and study
  • Retrofitting the Library with additional electrical outlets for students’ laptops
  • Installing a MetroNaps® nap pod (invented by a Tepper alum) to reenergize weary students
  • Building group study rooms where students can get together to study or collaborate on projects

If you have already made your gift this year, I thank you for your generosity. If you have not, then I encourage you to please give to the Library so that we can continue to meet the changing needs of students. With book and online reference material prices ranging from $50 to thousands of dollars per item, it is easy to understand the immediate impact of your gift of any size.

While you literally can contribute volumes to the Carnegie Mellon community with a gift, there are other ways that you can support the university and benefit students through the University Libraries. Please contact me if you have any questions about what students need and want, or what we do at the Library—or if you have an idea about what you would like to accomplish with your gift.

Gratefully,
