Bio

As an Adjunct Professor at the Integrated Innovation Institute, Shantha designs and delivers courses in the Master of Science in Software Management program in leadership and career strategies.

Shantha is a senior software engineering leader and entrepreneur with a proven track record of growing and mentoring technical teams. Her efforts have led to significant ROI for customers worldwide. Retail Solutions Inc.,the company she co-founded, is a leader in retail analytics in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) domain. She spearheaded the scaling of the product development team worldwide, a testament to her leadership and management skills, and was instrumental in delivering multiple analytic applications.

Prior to Retail Solutions, Shantha amassed over 20 years of experience in managing mission-critical systems for semiconductor and other high-value-added manufacturing. At Consilium, now part of Applied Materials, she oversaw the development of three generations of manufacturing execution systems. These software systems are not only mission-critical but also highly scalable and available, with companies like Intel and Infineon relying on them for their manufacturing processes. This experience underscores her technical expertise and reliability in handling complex systems.

Outside CMU, Shantha mentors start-ups and students from her undergraduate alma mater. She provides career advice to new graduates and those making career transitions. She is a member and volunteer of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), where she mentors women engineers and engineering students. Shantha is also a member of The Carnegie Mellon Women's Association (CMWA) and has been active in the Barbara Smith Women's Mentoring Program since 2019. Her book Roots and Wings – Inspiring stories of Indian Engineering Women  was published in 2018. She co-authored Demystifying AI for The Enterprise, published in 2021. Most recently, she authored a book on leadership titled Leadership Lessons With The Beatles, published in 2022, with a German translation published also in 2022 and an Indian edition published in 2024.
