Announcing the Search for Vice Provost for Academic Budget and Financial Planning

Dear Members of the Carnegie Mellon Community:

I am pleased to share that a search committee has been formed to identify the next vice provost for academic budget and financial planning. This leadership position will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of budget and financial planning for academic units under the Office of the Provost. 

Reporting directly to me as provost, the vice provost for academic budget and financial planning will provide strategic direction for managing the overall institutional budget, oversee resource planning and administrative processes for the academic units, as well as develop financial models, and offer budget guidance for academic strategic initiatives. Additionally, they will serve as a liaison and consultant to business and financial officers in the colleges, schools and departments. In close collaboration with partners across the university, the vice provost for academic budgeting and financial planning will focus on enhancing relevant communication and information sharing across the university, encouraging fiscal discipline and data-informed decision-making, and assessing and improving existing financial practices and processes.

The search committee will be co-chaired by Brent Carothers, associate vice president for budget and financial planning in the Finance Division, and Becky Culyba, vice provost for strategic initiatives and chief of staff to the provost. The committee members are:

  • Kathleen Flanigan, Associate Vice Provost for Finance, Office of the Provost
  • Brian Hill, Associate Vice Provost for Student Financials and Enrollment Systems, Office of the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and Dean of Admission
  • Lisa Hoebelheinrich, Senior Associate Vice President and Chief Research Operations Officer, Office of the Vice President for Research
  • Mike Lee, Managing Director of Finance, Tepper School of Business
  • Ellen Romagni, Senior Director of Operations and Real Estate, Campus Design and Facility Development
  • Henry Zheng, Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Planning

In collaboration with the search firm Ferra Executive Search, the committee will help to identify the next vice provost for academic budget and financial planning. The committee will provide input and feedback on the position description, contribute to developing evaluation criteria, and participate in semifinalist and finalist interviews.
