Fall 2016 Registration Packet

Registration Instructions

You may want to view or print some of the registration information below in PDF format. If necessary, download the free Adobe Reader to view and print files.

It's easy to register for your fall courses. You will select the courses that you want to take that are contained in Step 6 and then Veronica and I will register you for the classes. Please follow these important steps and complete them by June 30, 2016.

Step 1. Computing and Your Andrew ID

You will need to know your Andrew ID and password before taking any placement exams and registering for classes.

Step 2. Make sure your AP/IB/Cambridge scores have been sent to CMU!

The biggest issue we face in registerring first year students is the absence of official Advanced Placement (or International Baccalaureate or Cambridge A-Level) exam scores.  If you've taken these tests, and didn't request that the scores automatically be sent to CMU, make SURE you have the scores sent ASAP.  If you indicate on your Registration Form (Step 6) that you've taken AP tests and we DO NOT have your AP Scores, we will contact youPlease don't proactively call or email to see if we've received them.  We will let you know if we haven't if you've indicated that you've taken an AP exam on your registration form.

Order AP Reports from College Board

Order IB Transcripts

Order Cambridge A-level Certificates

Step 3. Calculus Assessment

If you did not have the opportunity to take one of these listed Standardized Calculus Exams (AP/IB/Cambridge) but would like to demonstrate a mastery of the material and would like to place into a more advanced course that has 21-120 or 21-122 as a prerequisite, a Calculus Assessment will be offered during Orientation.  If you have taken one of the Standardized Calculus Exams and did not receive a score high enough to receive course credit for 21-120 or 21-122, you are not eligible to take the CMU Calculus Assessment.  If you took any AP/IB/Cambridge exams but chose not to take a Calculus exam, you are not eligible to take the CMU Calculus Assessment.

Only students who have credit for the prerequisite course by receiving course credit with an appropriate AP/IB/Cambridge Score/Grade, or who are transferring in credit for the prerequisite course from another college or university, are eligible to take a more advanced calculus/mathematics course.  More information is available through the link above. Please read the explanation of "Who can take the CMU Calculus Assessment" on the form linked above carefully before calling or emailing with questions.

Step 4. English Placement for Non-Native English Speakers

If English is a language you speak but isn't the one you consider to be your "home language" or "mother tongue" then follow the instructions for the English Placement on the page linked above.  If this does not apply to you, skip to Step 5.

Step 5. Print and Read MCS First-Year Scheduling Booklet

Print the MCS First-Year Scheduling Booklet [.pdf]. You will need to refer to this information when you are completing the Registration Form. Also read about the Phage Genomics Research Course and complete the application if you wish to enroll in this course.

Step 6. Registration Form

Complete the Registration Form linked above and submit it.

Step 7. Request Transfer Credit (optional)

If you have taken courses at colleges and universities other than Carnegie Mellon, and would like to receive transfer credit for these courses, please review our transfer credit policy and submit the online transfer request form.

Step 8. Health Professions Program Website (optional)

If you are interested in pursuing a career in the health professions complete and submit the Health Professions Interest Form.

Get started now!

It should only take you about two hours to complete your registration information. Then you can enjoy the remainder of your summer!  We will have all students registered by early August and you will be notified AFTER all incoming MCS First-Year students are enrolled in their Fall 2015 courses.  Open advising sessions will be held during orientation if you'd like to discuss your schedule.  We look forward to seeing you in August!

If, after reading through MCS First-Year Scheduling Booklet in Step 5 and reviewing the Registration Form in Step 6, you have questions about the registration process, please contact Veronica Peet at vpeet@andrew.cmu.edu or call (412) 268-3750.
