To make Adobe Reader your Default PDF viewer you will need to disable the built-in PDF viewer in Firefox or Chrome

Firefox

  1. At the top right of the Firefox window, click on the "Open Menu" (three horizontal bars) button (or in earlier versions, select the"Firefox" button or the "Tools" menu) and then select "Options"
  2. Select the Applications panel.
  3. Find Portable Document Format (PDF) in the list and click on it to select it.
  4. Click on the drop-down arrow in the Action column for the above entry and select “Use Adobe Reader (default)”

Chrome

  1. Open Chrome and type "about:plugins" into the omnibox at the top.
  2. Scroll down and find Chrome PDF Viewer.
  3. Click the "Disable" link to prevent PDFs from loading within Chrome.
After completing the above steps for your browser, online PDFs will open in your previously installed Adobe Acrobat Reader and display associated navigation tools built into PDF documents.
