Arthur F. and Mary Ellen Crannell Naylor (AFMECN) Study Abroad Award

The AFMECN Study Abroad Award provides between $600–$1,500 in supplemental financial assistance to one Carnegie Mellon undergraduate student each academic year. The award supports financially eligible students who plan to study abroad in Europe through a cultural immersion program.

Originally known as the Mary Ellen Crannell Naylor (MM '48) Study Abroad Award, this scholarship was established in 2003 to honor Mrs. Naylor’s deep interests in language, travel, and education. In 2016, Linda Naylor Harris (MCS ’81) expanded the award to also honor her father, Arthur F. Naylor (EE ’48).

Mr. and Mrs. Naylor traveled extensively, visiting every continent except Antarctica, with a special love for Europe where they explored 27 countries. Mary Ellen especially valued cultural exchange, languages, and diverse perspectives. This scholarship aims to support the values of Mr. and Mrs. Naylor as it supports CMU students in gaining experience abroad.
