Upcoming Scholarship and Funding Deadlines

Studying abroad is a rewarding experience, and there are many scholarships and funding options available to help support your goals! As you begin to think about your options for studying abroad, consider these upcoming scholarship and funding deadlines. Many external study abroad programs also offer scholarships, so ask when applying!  You can also find additional information about funding and scholarships on the Funding page. Several opportunities have upcoming deadlines:

The Fund for Education Abroad

The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) offers scholarships of $1,000 to $5,000 for U.S. citizens and permanent residents to study abroad anywhere in the world for any length of time.  Applications are due September 20, 2023

FEA also has tuition waivers that can be used for either direct enrollment or provider programs at Mary Immaculate College, Trinity College Dublin, University of Galway, University College Cork, and University of Limerick in Ireland or $5,000 cash scholarships to other programs in Ireland through the Ireland Access Partner Scholarships. One application to FEA for multiple scholarships is due September 20, 2023.

The University of Sydney, IFSA, and the Fund for Education Abroad have partnered to offer two scholarships, each valued at up to $10,000, to study abroad at the University of Sydney for a 2024 semester. Visit IFSA Scholarships, Grants and Financial Aid for full details and learn about other IFSA scholarships. Applications are due October 1, 2023.

The Gilman Scholarship

Applications to the Gilman Scholarship are due by October 5, 2023. You must be the recipient of a Federal Pell Grant to qualify for this scholarship. These awards can be used for any short-term or semester and academic year programs in the 2024 calendar year.

Students who apply for and receive the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad are then eligible to receive a Critical Need Language Award from the Gilman Scholarship Program for a total possible award of $8,000 if they are studying one of 16 critical need languages while abroad. 

Fulbright Program

Applications for 2024-25 Fulbright awards are due by October 10, 2023. Applicants for study/research awards design their own projects and will typically work with advisers at foreign universities or other institutes of higher education. The study/research awards are available in approximately 140 countries.  

Tartans Abroad

Tartans Abroad Scholarship offers awards up to $1,000 to be used for Winter Break Study Abroad. Applications are due October 31, 2023.

Think Swiss

The ThinkSwiss Research Scholarship (for summer 2024) will open in mid-October for the 2024 application cycle. Applications are due by December 31, 2023

CIEE

CIEE is offering the CIEE Trailblazer Grant for a flight voucher of up to $1,500 for participation in select CIEE programs in England, France, Italy, Spain, Estonia, Scotland, and Greater China (Taipei).
