Nicole Lopez

Class of 2025+
B.A. in Hispanic Studies & Global Studies
Hometown: Long Beach, California

Nicole Lopez, a third-year student majoring in Hispanic Studies and Global Studies, hails from Long Beach, CA. Having grown up in the culturally rich environment of Long Beach, California, surrounded and nurtured by a predominantly Latino community, Nicole has gained a firsthand understanding of the daily struggles and challenges faced by these communities.

As a first-generation college student with immigrant parents, Nicole has encountered unique obstacles while navigating life in the United States. The lack of support and guidance has made the journey particularly challenging, but Nicole has learned to adapt, living day by day alongside many others who share similar experiences. Nicole recognizes the roots of the problems faced by these communities and understands what aspects need the most attention and improvement.

Being intimately connected to these communities has provided Nicole with a distinct advantage in offering assistance and giving back through earned trust. Nicole believes in the importance of creating safe spaces within areas where these communities may not be the predominant demographic. Nicole advocates for the idea that helping those nearby is just as vital as reaching beyond one's immediate community.

Through the resources provided by this fellowship, Nicole aims to enhance her experience and contribute to more sustainable and long-lasting solutions. The fellowship offers an opportunity for Nicole to further support and uplift the communities she is deeply connected to, fostering positive change and addressing the unique challenges they face.
