The Waiting List

Our Waiting List

If you have received a Waiting List decision, we've identified that you're academically and artistically qualified to succeed as a Carnegie Mellon student. However, the university is limited in how many students we're able to accept. When we meet these enrollment limitations, qualified students may be placed on a Waiting List.

Once we determine whether we have additional space, we’ll reach out to you.

What to Expect Next

To remain on our Waiting List, you will be asked to complete the Waiting List Reply Form, indicating your desire to remain active on the list or to be removed from the process. This form will be in your Where Am I in the Process? Portal beginning Monday, March 30. We will send an email to let you know when it becomes available. At that point, you will have until Friday, April 24, to indicate if you would like to remain on our waiting list.

Students who choose to remain on the Waiting List will be notified of their admission decision by the Office of Admission as we determine what space is available in each of our colleges and programs, and waiting list activity may occur into and throughout the summer.

If admitted, we require that you submit your enrollment deposit within 72 hours of being notified. If you plan to apply for financial aid and haven't completed the aid application process(opens in new window), we strongly encourage you to do so as quickly as possible so you can consider your financial aid offer if admitted.
