Bio
Dr. Ryan M. Prendergast currently serves as the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the School of Music and as an Assistant Teaching Professor of Musicology. Dr. Prendergast teaches courses in music history, opera history, dramaturgy, and musical theater history. He was formerly a lecturer in the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin and dramaturg for the Butler Opera Center. Dr. Prendergast’s research focuses on opera production and its history, musical theater, German theater, and opera recording. He received his doctorate in theatre from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign with the dissertation “The Theatrical Collaborators of Richard Strauss: Networks, Materials, and Cultural Politics.” Fusing theatre studies and musicology, Dr. Prendergast has presented his work at national conferences of the Modern Language Association, the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, the American Musicological Society, the Mid-America Theatre Conference, and the International Richard Strauss Society. His research has been published in the Richard Strauss-Jahrbuch, The Wagner Journal, and in collected volumes from Cambridge University Press and edition text+kritik.
