Westinghouse R&D Leader Shares How AI is Applied in the Nuclear Power Industry
By Emily DeJeu
Lou Martinez Sancho, Westinghouse Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President of R&D and Innovation briefly spoke to faculty and students about how AI is being used to improve nuclear power across the industry lifecycle.
She also shared updates on the HiVE™ Nuclear-Specific Artificial Intelligence System developed within Westinghouse to improve operational intelligence around maintenance and specifications. Equally important, Lou shared how the Risks and Ethics committee regularly discusses AI in Westinghouse. Finally, Lou highlighted Westinghouse IQ, a public knowledge system empowered by the Westinghouse bertha™ generative AI model. Westinghouse IQ is a great free resource for students to learn about nuclear power.
With so many exciting industry AI applications, we decided to invite Lou to campus to dive deeper into many of these topics.
