Carnegie Mellon will commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11 with a lone bagpiper playing at the 9/11 Memorial Tree on The Cut Saturday, Sept. 11. The Memorial Tree was planted in memory of the seven alumni whose lives were lost that day. The piper will play at the moments of impact: 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., 9:37 a.m. and 10:03 a.m., marking the times four airliners crashed into the World Trade Center Towers, the Pentagon and an open field in Shanksville, PA. All community members are invited to participate in these moments of remembrance.

Beware of Scam-Related Phone Calls & Emails

We often hear reports of members in our community receiving scam phone calls, and in the age of COVID-19, email scams are also on the rise. View some tips to help guard yourself against these threats on OIE's website. Staying educated, following OIE’s tips and sharing them with your friends and peer groups is key. Together, let's make sure no one in our community is negatively impacted by these scams.

There are approximately 60 million people who have ancestries connected to these countries who reside in the United States, representing approximately 18 percent of the U.S. population. Many labels are used for this panethnic group, with the most common umbrella terms being "Hispanic" and "Latina/e/o/x." Hispanic Americans have been influential in every part of this nation's history, from arts to politics to business and innovation to the military.

University partners across Pittsburgh, including the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, Community College of Allegheny County, Duquesne University, Point Park University, and Slippery Rock, as well as the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, have come together to develop a comprehensive Pittsburgh-based month of LHHM 2021 activities that fall within four core principles: cultural, educational, social, and advocacy.
