Greetings, Students & Scholars!

The fall season is bringing lots of pleasant days and cool nights which means pumpkins, festivals, fairs, and more. There's a lot going on around the city this month, so get some friends together and start planning for a fun weekend ahead! Also, CMU's Fall Break is Oct. 17-21 and there are no classes. CMU Family Weekend: Oct. 14-15

Family Weekend at Carnegie Mellon brings together students, families and friends for several days to experience the vibrancy of our beautiful campus. This year features a robust schedule which includes Residential Education Neighborhood Gatherings, a President's Welcome Reception, a chili cook-off, a beam signing event for the new Highmark Center for Health, Wellness, and Athletics building, and other special events. Learn more.

Moonshot Museum Grand Opening

The Moonshot Museum is ready for take-off! The grand opening of Pittsburgh's newest museum will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15. This special event will feature local and national leaders including County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Mayor Ed Gainey, and NASA's Dr. Lori Glaze. Plus, dive into spectacular science, a ribbon cutting, and exclusive opening day giveaways! The Moonshot Museum is located at 1016 N. Lincoln Avenue. Learn more.

Pittsburgh Monster Pumpkins Festival

You don't want to miss out on the world-famous Atlantic Giants - the most prodigious breed of pumpkins on the planet with record weights of over 2,500 pounds! Pittsburgh Monster Pumpkins is a festival and pumpkin patch all in one place right in the city at 3 Crossings, located between 28th and 29th streets in the Strip District. University of Pittsburgh Latin America, Caribbean & East European Festivals

The University of Pittsburgh is having quite a busy weekend with not one - but two festivals! The 40th Annual Latin American & Caribbean Festival will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15 at Posvar Hall, 230 S. Bouquet St. And on Sunday, Oct. 16 the university will host its East European Festival from 12 noon to 4 p.m. in the Cathedral of Learning Commons Room. Experience festive music and delicious food at both festivals!

Historic Pittsburgh Fair

Visit the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh in Oakland for the exciting return of the Historic Pittsburgh Fair highlighting the rich historical resources our city has to offer. The day will feature local history institutions and speakers discussing their favorite historical resources and the importance of accessibility within their institutions. The event will be held Oct. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the library and is free to the public. View the schedule.

Hometown-Homegrown

Dozens of local food vendors will be at the Heinz History Center's 9th annual Hometown-Homegrown festival. Sample tasty food and drinks, plus partake in fun activities that will be set up throughout the museum. The festival is free to attend with your CMU ID Card and will take place Saturday, Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. View vendors and the schedule.

Health, Wellness & Sports Expo

The Health, Wellness & Sports Expo, presented by UPMC Health Plan, is set to be one of the largest health-related events of the year. This inaugural expo will showcase fitness centers, personal trainers, nutrition-focused services, yoga studios, chiropractors, physical therapists, aestheticians, spas, sports leagues, apparel shops, community organizations, social media influencers, and anyone wanting to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday, Oct. 16 at the North Park Sports Complex. Prizes and giveaways will happen at 3 p.m. on both days! Learn more.

Living History at Fort Pitt

Journey back in time and join the Fort Pitt Museum for living history on the museum lawn from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15. Discover the historic tribes that once called Pittsburgh home and learn how they lived during the 18th century. In addition to living history, visitors are invited to explore the museum and learn about Western Pennsylvania's pivotal role during the French & Indian War and how The Point became the birthplace of Pittsburgh. Learn more.
