Tartan Community Day

On Oct. 28, join the CMU community at Tartan Community Day! Whether you want to try zip lining, enjoy a specialty hot chocolate, check out the petting zoo, or enjoy one of the spooky activities, there is something for everyone. Opera: Considering Matthew Shepard

From Oct. 27-30, head over to Rauh Theater for Considering Matthew Shepard. Focusing on the life and tragic death of Matthew Shepard, this three-part fusion oratorio blends multiple musical styles and storytelling techniques. Student tickets are free with your student ID. Shaping the Field of Learning Engineering with Kumar Garg

On Monday, Nov. 4, at 5 p.m., head to the Rangos Ballroom for "Shaping the Field of Learning Engineering" with Kumar Garg as part of the University Lecture Series. Kumar Garg is Vice President of Partnerships at Schmidt Futures. In this role, Garg works to help all major Schmidt Futures programs find successful leverage, as well as helping to run the Technology and Society portfolio. He previously helped shape science and technology policy for the Obama Administration for nearly eight years, serving in various roles in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). Tickets are free, but please reserve your tickets by 11/4.

Bike or Treat: Scavenger Hunt

Trick or treat scavenger hunt? Sign us up! Join this scavenger hunt on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 1 to 4 p.m. Bike or Treat is a fun, inclusive alley-cat-style bike ride celebrating all things Halloween. Participants can start wherever they'd like and hit checkpoints in whatever order they'd like. Collect all of the scavenger hunt buttons for prizes at the after-party at POGOH's offices. Freedom to Create Keynote with Orhan Pamuk

On Saturday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m., listen to a keynote speech with Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk, the recipient of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Literature. An advocate for freedom of expression, Mr. Pamuk has experienced first-hand the dangers to writers. During the keynote, Mr. Pamuk will read from Nights of Plague, talk with Anderson Tepper about his work and his fight for freedom of expression in Turkey, and answer audience questions. Learn more about the event.

Fall Flower Show: Blooms Under the Big Top

Ever thought of running away to the circus? Look no further than the fall flower show at Phipps! This colorful carnival of chrysanthemums wraps up this weekend, showcasing a whirlwind tour of stunning circus and carnival-inspired botanical displays. This show is spectacular, from the show's classic hand-carved wooden carousel to whimsical animal topiaries. Tickets should be purchased online and in advance.

Lions, tigers, and bears, oh my! ZooBoo is a classic Pittsburgh kid-friendly Halloween event. Trick-or-treat throughout the zoo, collecting treats and supporting local businesses at this daytime family favorite event. Kids can participate in not-so-scary crafts and activities and a spooktacular Halloween parade, dance and costume contest. Whatever your age, check out the Halloween-themed enrichment activities for the animals across the zoo! Learn more and purchase tickets.
