Tepper School of Business Announces Esteemed Speakers for Commencement Weekend Diploma Ceremonies

The Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University is pleased to announce the distinguished speakers who will address nearly 500 graduates during the upcoming commencement weekend. Diploma ceremonies for the Tepper School’s degree programs will take place on May 10-12, marking a significant milestone for the graduating classes of 2024.

Three of the speakers are Tepper School alumni and one is a graduating senior. These individuals have been selected to share their insights and experiences with the graduating students at each respective diploma ceremony.

Keynote Speaker: Charles Evans (MSIA 1985, Ph.D. 1989), former ninth president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago

Prior to his role at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Charles Evans served as president, director of research, and senior vice president of the Chicago Fed overseeing research on monetary policy, banking, financial markets, and regional economic conditions. He has served as a trustee at Rush University Medical Center, director of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and member of the Civic Consulting Alliance board. Evans will also be receiving the Doctor of Public Service during the university’s Commencement celebration on May 12.

Keynote Speaker: Robert DeAngelis (MSIA 1985), founder and CEO at the Cartesian Group, LLC

Robert DeAngelis has had a distinguished career in consulting and banking, and has worked for Mellon Bank, KPMG, Signet Bank, and Wells Fargo. Additionally, he worked for KeyBank as an executive vice president. An active alumnus of the Tepper School, he serves as the president of the Tepper School Alumni Board.

Keynote Speaker: Brian Olsavsky (MSIA 1989), senior vice president and chief financial officer of Amazon

Brian Olsavsky’s ongoing career at Amazon spans 22 years, with position in Worldwide Operations, North American Retail Business and Acquisitions, and Global Consumer Business. An advocate of sponsorship and mentorship, he has supported the creation of employee-groups focused on diversity, equity, and professional development. He serves as a member of the Tepper School’s Board of Advisors.  

Lee Wang, a 2024 graduate, will deliver the keynote address at the Undergraduate Diploma Ceremony on Sunday, May 12, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum.

The commencement weekend at the Tepper School is a culmination of years of hard work and dedication by the graduating class, faculty, and staff. It is a time to celebrate achievements, reflect on the journey, and look ahead to the future.
