Wellness Initiatives

Wellness and Meaning-Making Programs support our students, faculty, and staff as we individually and collectively work towards healthy, fulfilling lives and co-creating an enriching, supportive environment that helps all members to thrive.

What We Do

Student Organizations

Advise student organizations that have a wellness mission or program and encourage collaboration between groups to enhance campus connectedness.

Well-Being Spaces

Support several wellness venues on campus, including the Mindfulness Room in West Wing and the Well-being Lab, Contemplative Nooks, and two holistic consultation rooms in the Highmark Health, Wellness and Athletics Center.

Workshops & Programs

Encourage wellness literacy and practice with a wide variety of skill-building workshops and programs, with a mindfulness and holistic health lens.

Well-Being News

Distribute a monthly holistic wellness newsletter, Be Well at CMU, that shares campus-wide wellness events, opportunities for engagement and development, and ways to support different dimensions of health and well-being.

Mindfulness & Meditation

Coordinate a variety of resources and events in mindfulness and meditation. This includes weekly beginner’s meditation circles in the fall and spring semesters, mindfulness workshops and training, and our credited Mindful Living 99-153 course that is offered twice a year.

Headspace

For instant access to mindfulness resources, we partner with Headspace, the leading mindfulness, movement, focus, and sleep app on the market, to offer full, free access to all current CMU community members with the @andrew.cmu.edu email address.

Equa Health

We are excited to share a new partnership with Equa Health, providing all current CMU students, faculty, and staff with free access to a mindfulness training tool originally developed at CMU by the research conducted under Dr. David Creswell in CMU's Health and Human Performance Lab. Download the Equa Health app and use your @andrew.cmu.edu email address to unlock your complimentary subscription.

CMU Students Emphasize Holistic Wellness

What did it mean for students to be "well" at CMU prior to the pandemic?

Gabriele Maier, Dietrich professor of modern languages, and talented College of Fine Arts alumna, Cory Hickoff, spent the fall semester of 2019 conducting 37 interviews with students from all over campus defining wellness at CMU. Hickoff transformed their wellness struggles and successes into whimsical cartoons. Explore the project: How Well? A journey of wellness across Carnegie Mellon University.
