Why should I spend time learning and practicing core competencies at CMU?

No matter where you go after you graduate from CMU, we know that there are key skills that employers are looking for regardless of industry or position. Skills like communication and collaboration help you make the impact that you want to have in the world. While you are at CMU, we know that you have a busy schedule, filled with classes and other programs and activities where you are learning and practicing these skills every day. We want to make it easy for you to get a sense of where you have already practiced key skills and how you can find courses and activities to build skills where you have more room to grow. And while you don’t need to learn everything all at once, our hope that each class or experience builds together into a cohesive set of competencies that you can carry forward into the future.
