Using ChatGPT Edu with an Existing OpenAI Account
Many people on campus may already have a ChatGPT account using their @andrew.cmu.edu email address.
Your existing account will not change if:
- you do not purchase a ChatGPT Edu license.
- you are using an alias (@cmu.edu, @cs.cmu.edu, etc.).
- you are an OpenAI Platform API customer.
If you choose to purchase an Edu license, use this page to understand how your existing account may change.

- You will begin logging in with single sign-on through Web Login using your Andrew userID and password and authenticating with DUO.
- After you first log in, you will have the option to migrate OR export and delete your ChatGPT data from your existing account. ChatGPT data includes chats and GPTs.
