How To Use Cisco Jabber Chat

Cisco Jabber (Softphone) is an all-in-one communication tool that gives you the functionality of a telephone on your computer or mobile device. Jabber is also an option for group chat. This option is turned on for your computer. If using a mobile device, please request an account

Log In To Jabber for the First Time

  1. Open Cisco Jabber.
  2. Enter your userID as follows: YourAndrewUserID@uc.cmu.edu.*
  3. Click Continue
  4. In the Microsoft sign-in prompt, enter your @andrew.cmu.edu email address.
  5. Log in to Web Login using your Andrew userID and password, then authenticate with Duo.
  6. Click Yes to stay signed in.

*IMPORTANT: After logging in to Cisco Jabber the first time, use only your Andrew userID (without "@uc.cmu.edu"). 

Log in to Cisco Jabber (After Your First Login)

  1. Open Cisco Jabber and click Continue (your Andrew userID should automatically populate).
  2. In the Microsoft sign-in prompt, enter your @andrew.cmu.edu email address.
  3. Log in to Web Login using your Andrew userID and password, then authenticate with Duo.
  4. Click Yes to stay signed in.

Note: Your login experience may vary depending your existing login sessions. For example, if you are already logged in to Web Login for another service, you may not see steps three and four.

Start a Chat

To begin a group chat.

  1. Search for a contact on the Contacts tab.
  2. Right click on the contact's name and select Start Chat. The chat window will load.
  3. Click the Search or call field and search for any additional parties that you would like to the conversation.
  4. Click an individual's name to add them to the chat.
