Breastfeeding Friendly Place Award

We are pleased to announce that Carnegie Mellon University has been recognized as a 2024 Breastfeeding Friendly Place by the Allegheny County Health Department's Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. This award recognizes workplaces and public spaces that “make an extra effort to accommodate breastfeeding mothers.” Prior award winners include AHN Wexford Hospital, Hello Neighbor, UPMC Baby Steps Maternity Program, and many other great Pittsburgh institutions.

CMU offers several lactation rooms on and off campus. These spaces are available to students, staff, faculty, and guests, providing a comfortable and private environment for breastfeeding mothers. Users may need to request access to the space and are responsible for following the guidelines for lactation room use.

To learn more about our lactation support resources, including how to obtain a pump or address concerns, please visit our Lactation Support Program page. We're grateful to the Allegheny County Health Department for this recognition and for the work they do to support of families in our region.
